All I'm going to say, is that when your wife looks at you like your crazy, and then sees teh results and say "wow, I'm surprised, that looks REALLY nice" well, yes I take some pride in knowing I turned her skeptism into excitement. I will end it here

So, what you are saying is you took her advice and starting taking the enlargement pills, and she was overjoyed by that?

I hear the mellow whistle of this thread falling into the gutter faster then a penny falling from the sky

You ask a tough question without a simple answer. I am also trying to get this thread back on track........eh hum. I havesome hands ontime tuning Olds muscle cars. In the late 60s and early 70s this was one of GM innovators in the Outside Air Intake system (Ram Air). We've tuned em, run them on the track, dino tested yada yada. The power boost comes from being able to suck in cool air from outside the high heat under hood environment. These new cars, and H3 run a pretty high under hood temp because of emission concerns. Just look at all the heat shielding in the engine bay...battery box with air intake...WOW. Anyway, the 07 H3 has an in tube from under the passenger side fender, tring to get some fresh cool air (I am going to work a mod off that later this year and skip the Cold Air Intake stuff you can buy, 4 now anyway). I think the K&N is not for the 07 H3 yet??????? Help me here guys if they released a new one. It ain't no FORCED air system anyway (double negative vernacular intentional).

So, to answer your question, it would depend on outdoor temperature and humidity, your under hood temperature, and whether you have a PCM that cantake advantage of the parameters of these three factors. If it is cool and dry out, you could get a pretty good boost......I'm guessing 7-10 HP with just a CAI.....possibly more under ideal conditions. If hot and humid, not so much. If it is very cold out, winter say 25 F or below, you can over cool the air charge and not gain anything. I can tell you absolutely fore sure the Olds Big Blocks prefer 50-56 degrees Fand low humidity to rip it up. I am also for certain a PCM tune would send up that score a tad, not counting the other increases from the PCM.

My guess for the H3: 3-5 for the K&N filter alone; 6-10 with a CAI system, possibly more under certain not likely to be real circumstances. Noise, I got no idea!

I had my PCM tuned for only the K&N filter. I have no other engine mods. Before I had the PCM upgraded/changed, I noticed a difference with the new K&N filter as opposed to the standard one. In some of my other cars, I have insulated the air intake lines with thermal blanketing and created encasements for the factory air boxes that were sealed and insulated from the engine compartment to reflect the heat. I haven't done this with the H3 but thought about it. I also started working on something to funnel the air from underneath the H3 into the air box, in addition to what is already going into it. I haven't done it yet because I haven't had alot of time, but I did cut the holes on the box for it, but have them sealed off until I figure out where I'm going to mount the hoses so that the air gets pushed up into the box without bending and twisting too much, not to mention picking up all the road dirt and debris. If you figure out something let us know, unless of course you are going to market and sell it

I also forgot, I created my own Ram-Air intake for my Scion xB when I had it. It pulled air from under the front bumper right into the box. The amazing thing is that it actually worked and people wanted me to build one for them. By that time I was already thinking about the H3 though, and we all know what happened after that!

I think K&N filters are great for the money, but as you noticed, there is excessive oil on the ring. That has been that way for all of mine. If you run your fingers along the filter element, you'll notice it seems a little wet as well.

I was breezing thru the K&N web site today while having lunch. They estimate a little over 18 + HP gain with their CAI system for the 06 H3....no part # for the 07. I'm skeptical, but I guess I wasn't out of the ball park sayin 3-5 with a filter alone, and 6-10 with the CAI because it does add up to 6-15 HP. Man, maybe I do know something about air intake. I see Hummer Driver is all over the 07 void from K&N https://www.hummerforums.com/m_76173..._/tm.htm#76197. My hat is off, brilliant!! If I fab a intake pipe, draw some more air into the stock box from thru the fender, BONUS.
