Default Did you buy an extended warranty? At what mileage and how much?

Howdy all,

My 2007 H3 has just over 18K and I am thinking about buying an extended GM warranty. Folks at finance suggested that I get it before it hits 25K. Did any of you buy an extended warranty and what did you get? I know some have deductibles and last for a certain amoutn of miles. How much did you pay?

Thanks!

i bought my 06 hummer with 47000mi. I bought the extended warranty for about 2700.00. That's for an additional 3 years, 36000mi. it's the Gold package. The middle one. Covered all the 'expensive" parts to be fixed. The only really difference between the platinum and mine is mine didn't come with free massages!! haha. And about 800 cheaper. My deductible is 0. Well worth the money!!! I haven't had to use it, but nice to know it's there if i do.

i bought from carmax and they offered , as i remember, from 37k miles to apx 85k, 2yrs for just over $2000 , $75 deduct, and covers all the big stuff, which is all i was concerned with, like a transfer case that i never had even seen much less wanted to mess with!!!

yes i buy warrantees even tho i have put cars together!!

tom

its worth the $ to let them have the headaches and if nothing breaks,,, i have my peace of mind from now till the end!!

No thanks, rolling that extended warranty into the car loan is what the finance companies love. That 2500 is better off either paying off the truck or as a down on the next one, rather than paying the money and interest on something that will never be used. Most people only keep a vehicle a couple years these days.
Extended warranties are such a scam, I spent ten years as a tech, I love extended warranties. -cha ching-

Thanks for answering. Seems like I am looking at around $2500 - $3000 if I want to extend my warranty. I am good at fixing most things, but never seem to be good at vehicles!

I think the warranties are different for every area, I bought the GMPP warranty for $2699 I bought at 49,000 miles and it is good for 30,000 miles or 36 months with a $50 deductable.

Actually, I don't think the price differs by area, but by what mileage you buy at. We also have a Tahoe and I bought the GMPP. The price was different based on different factors
  • Current mileage (Price was lower if you had lower mileage as they are technically double dipping as your vehicle is already under warranty)
  • Deductible (You could have a 0 deductible or other amounts, I think $100)
  • Length (Depending on how long you want your warranty to last)
I did find that dealer prices differed immensely. As an example, I called Huffines and they were way hi. Also contacted a dealer that gives online quotes and they were good. Prices are here http://www.gmoutlet.com/emailserver/..._email2009.htm
Finally ended up going with another local dealer who was even cheaper as he mentions that they were pricing $100 over cost!

Black in Penn. has the GMPP for discounted rates. I am going to get the 100k on mine before it hits 12k so it is eligible. Quoted around 2k for the coverage.

Am I missing something? I didn't see where anyone mentioned rolling a warranty into the loan.

You can buy extended warranties outside of the dealership, it has nothing to do with the loan.
I don't know anyone that only keeps their car for a couple of years, unless the vehicle is leased.

With regard to extended warranties being a scam, I completely disagree.
I bought a $2600 extended warranty for my blazer years ago. It had 32k miles when I bought it.
The warranty more than paid for itself because in the 5 years I owned the blazer it had lots of issues. The ball joints broke every year, the transfer case went bad, the air conditioner stopped working, and there were a few other problems. A buddy of mine has 97k miles on his truck and just spent $1400 on repairs, he didn't buy an extended warranty.
My girlfriend has had quite a few repairs on her Subaru, covered under her extended warranty.

I will be purchasing a warranty soon for my H3 from either GMPPdirect or nationwarranty. I'm approaching 50k miles and I have no plans for getting rid of my H3.
