Descents and Oil Levels

Default Descents and Oil Levels



I'm sorting out my H3, exploring a few limits in suspension travel, etc. I noticed on descents of more than 9 degrees my oil light comes on. I checked levels before the run and immediately after I leveled the H3 after the light came on, and everything was where it should be. I understand what's going on here, residual oil moving to the front of the pan leaving the sensor, and I can't imagine this being engineered without addressing oil pressure and vehicle angles, but I have to know, have any of you experienced any kind of oil pressure or oil level failures on descents?

No, never, and 9 degrees is very mild, Been way passed that. Never heard any of the guys I've been wheeling with have that mentioned either?

Like Doc states, 9 degrees is very small. Many paved roads can get near that slope.
I have had my truck no way near the advertised 60% slope these vehicles are capable of, off road.
Can I assume you engine oil level is up to the correct mark on the stick ?

Is that your truck or a ad shot ?
Those tires look way too clean to be off roading.

Hmm. That's what I thought. Oil level is where it should be. Possible bad feed? I'm not familiar with where the oil pick-up or pump is located. It was only on descents when the light came on.

That's my truck, with new 33s right after a stream crossing.

It's good enough to be an ad shot.

Check oil sending sensor. Make sure that is working correctly

Will do. In a previous life we called that a dip stick.
