Thumper - Mine's the same color and yours looks great! A few questions: How did you black out the side vies mirrors, handles and fuel door? Oh, and I really like the top square stack vents - great idea! Did you powder coat your wheels?

Richard, lets work through the questions backwards... the wheels were power coated. They are stock rims and I really like them in matt black. The fuel door was purchased in that color on ebay. Before that it didnt have a fuel door just that stock locking twist cap. As to the mirrors, handles, stack vents, front door emblems, skid plate under the radiator up front, chrome grill, and top light bar (stock roof racks) I used about 6 to 8 coats of Plasti Dip made by Performix that I purchased at Home Depot. I saw some you tube clips and decided to go with it. So far after several months it is holding very well. It actually protects whatever finish it is covering and if need be you can peel it off like elastic. Some have even gone further and plasti dip the entire car including the rims! I think I had I seen the clip before pwer coating the rims I would have at least tried it. As to the entire car, I think I would just go with a paint finish in matt black if I went down that road.

Thumper - Thanks for the reply. I found a place to powder coat at $50/wheel and am meeting someone tomorrow to swap out the door handles. As for the side view mirrors and stacks I will try the plastic dip. I will post my progress sometime this week. Thanks!

Hey Thumper et al -

Today was a good day for de-chroming...

1. Wet sanded, painted and clear coated the stacks (great idea!) and side view mirrors
2. Line X'd the front grill (awesome!)
3. Previously de-chromed the hood latches, handles and side vents....

For the stacks I used duplicolor perfect match flat black and clear coat. The side mirrors, I used duplicolor wheel paint flat black and clear coat. Thanks to craigslist I am out of pocket $190 so far ($150 Line X and $40 for paint and supplies). Pretty damn good! I took pics; however, the uploads fail (too big?)

No... He cancelled. I temporarily plastic dip'd the handles and fuel door. If the weather holds up, tomorrow's fuel door day! Called a few places for powder coating the wheels... Just have to decide when ($400, 2-3 days). The Line X was a h-u-g-e improvement <and> the stack refinishing really tied it all together!
