I noticed a wet spot on the frame today and found the driver side cv shaft is leaking on the inner side. I do not have a service manual(yet) and am curious if someone could tell me if this is a seal leaking or a larger problem. Am I correct to assume that is t-case fluid coming out? Can this problem be solved be simply removing the half-shaft and replacing seal or will it be more involved. I know that depends on how early I have caught the problem. Any info is greatly appreciated.

 

Depends on what you consider simple. Once you get down to this you can pull the shaft and replace the seal. Putting the shaft back in requires some care to not damage your new seal.

 

That looks easier than worrying about what someone else is doing to it when they are working on it lol. Thanks, the pic definitely helps me understand the time frame I'm looking at.

So while underneath the H3 I have discovered the crossmember bushing is shot too Could the movement caused by the failed bushing be causing the weeping seal I have on the half shaft?
