Default cv axle

Hey guys, I am new here. I have a good friend that has a 2006 H3 stick shift, and his driver's CV axle is way bad. I can only seem to find replacements at the dealer for $450 which is crazy to me. I noticed on ebay that the same transmission is shared with the 4x4 Colorado, so I wonder if any of you know if the cv assembly, or at least the CV joints on the end are the same on the common - and cheaper truck, as the H3? I hate to sound cheap, but I have replaced hundreds of front drive axles in cars & other trucks & $450 just does not jive with me.

You want to order one for an 09. $291.00 GMPartshouse.com

Fits all years, and is more HD than the original OEM 06/07 Half shafts.

Doc- did the '08 Alphas have this same HD half shaft, or did it come out in '09?

The change occured in 2008 where GM began using the slightly thicker half shafts for the alphas and then later they did show up on some I5s. To make it simple and sure that you are getting the more HD shalfts, just easier to order for an 09/10

He I have had my hummer h3 2007 for about 3 months. It has been great so far but recently I've noticed that when I make turn it feels like my front wheel is rubbing against the inside of the car. It might be a front axle problem but what do u think

Hey rgrhummer520 - there are simple ways of testing to see if the axle is bad. The 1st way I use, is go to a large empty parking lot, turn off the radio & air conditioning, roll down both front windows, then crank the steering wheel all the way to 1 side, then take your foot off the brake with it in gear & allow the engine to idle thru a full circle, do the same test with the wheel all the way in the other direction. If the pavememt is smooth, but it feels like it is going over bumps &/or makes clicking sounds, it is the CV. The other test is to get under the truck - engine off of course, and grab the CV shaft with both hands, try moving it in any direction to check for play, there should be basically none. Also look for a torn axle boot. if it is torn, I usually replace the CV because even 1 speck of sand in there can ruin the joint very fast and if that boot is torn open then more than 1 speck will get in. I also use this test if I am going to buy a used front wheel drive car so I can bargain even more. I hope this helps.
