Default Crap! No bueno.

Was wheeling today and parked at a rest area (flat, solid ground), and the shifter felt weird.

Went from drive to park very.....VERY smoothly. But the dash indicated that I was still in Drive. Let go of the break and the rig kept moving.

Turned Lil Sparta off (lack of knowledge, stupid now that I think of it), and then she didn't want to start again since she was still in drive and wouldn't budge out of it.

Had to tow her back home I'm pretty sure it's the transmission linkage cable that gave out. What do you guys think? Gonna be covered under warranty? still at 42,xxx miles. Washed her up and gonna take her to Cadillac tomorrow morning.

Never really thought about it, but could our 3's possibly not have cables but instead be 'fly by wire'? I know you said shifted "VERY smoothly" which would indicate a cable breakage, but could be an electrical issue?

Should be covered. Mileage wise you are under on you Bumper to Bumper and depends on your in service date for the time. It would likely be covered in your 5 year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty also. Let us know what the problem was.

Found the problem.

I'm pretty sure the retention clip and washer failed. Had to manually put the tranny in park from underneath the car (pretty cool) and then reattached the linkage.

And volia! She started right back up and purred again. Still sent it off to the dealership because without the retention clip, I'm almost positive it'll jump back out again. Unless they don't have the specific part, I'm sure this will only take 10 min or less to fix. Hopefully it's not one of those parts that you have to order the whole component. bleh. But if this ever happens to you guys, at least you'll know how to get it going again.

Since it already broke, I'd remove the rest and get a bolt, castled nut ,and cotter pin it. Darn made in China parts.......

Thanks for posting what caused the issue......
