Default Coolant temperature gauge failure

Yesterday the coolant temperature sending unit or the coolant temp gauge stop working properly. The indicator reading is 260F and over been out range. The issue is the engine isn't hot. Leave it overnight to cool down. When I turn off the switch, the gauge don't return to 0F. In the morning with the engine completely cool the reading is 260F.

Is this a common issue on H2's?

Where can I buy this new temp gauge?

It could be a bad stepper motor, you could replace it, hit youtube up, plenty of videos..

Or if you think you can't handle, you could just buy a whole new cluster, about 300.00, cause if one gauge goes, the others aren't too far away, from crapping out..

If you can't afford that, just buy a autometer gauge, about 60.00..

I wouldn't run without a gauge, if you run too hot, you will kill the motor...

There are many companies out there that will fix this for you. I have 2 gauges out as well as a few bulbs. Most are $125 to $175 to repair all gauges and lights, plus shipping. Its a common GM issue, search google for GM gauge cluster repair.

Plus its an excuse, to upgrade the dash with led lights and better graphics..

To get a really custom dash, you are looking at 350.00 off ebay..

The problem with a custom dash is the odometer and the altered odometer statement that will forever be attached to the car. That's taboo as far as dealers are concerned. if you send yours in to be repaired, it retains the original odometer.
