airraid or airdoc with the standard filter box (some have a volant box and modified their pipe to fit that).

some says there has to be a box for filter instead of open filter so it doesnt give hor air. does it make too much difference closed (volant box) or open airaid/airdoc?

I bought the Airaid kit for my 2006. The installation parts forms a box with gasketing that seals when you close the hood. I love it.

If someone could clarify this

My hummer air intake is coming from the outside . It comes from the side upper fender . So even when the air temperature is 100 (florida) still is colder than the engine compartment

However the airaid system getso the air from the engine compartment which is way over 100

So the question is why is it called cold intake
And what's the purpose of that

Without getting into thermodynamics and air movement, cold air is denser then warmer air. Thus, technically, if it is colder, you are putting more in. Probably most of this is marketing.

With that said, airaid manufactures the product for specific vehicles. I went outside and took a picture for you of my unit. So where my old filter was, the airaid is now enclosed and pulling air from outside the engine compartment.

i will send these in a sec. Texas weather is about the same. lol

Thanks. I understand why cold air. My question is why an open box to the engine compartment . Doesn't make sense unless once the hood is close it makes a really good seal with the filter box otherwise it will suck hot air from the engine area
Only benefit I can see is to wash the filter which is a pain with the oem box
Btw a few years ago I replaced the oem filter with a washable and the fuel economy dropped really fast to low levels never seen before

How Ishe your performance. Any change up/down in MPH
Does it has any adjustments to make a good seal against the hood and the firewall (by the pics it looks to be open to the firewall )
Just got the airdoc and I'm curious if a cold intake box is worth it

Yeah, that's it. The hood makes a tight seal. Air is also being forced into the box that was created which comes with the rubber gasket you see in the picture. Is it worth it. I don't know, probably not on it's own. But I changed my exhaust and just put a new engine in and had the heads ported. Everything adds up in small increments. Don't expect a return on your investment, but the sound is awesome.

Just got you message. It is totally sealed to the firewall. I will take a better pic in the morning when I can see out there.
