My 06 has always done it, but gets worse as it gets more mileage. I've been told it's the chain in the transfer case wearing/stretching?

I wonder.. do you think it would be okay to drive with for a while? It seems like a lot of people have been having the problem and make it seem like its no big deal. I just freaked out because its such a rough clunking.

I am experiencing this noise as well, however it has progressively gotten worse of the past few days. Now when I move from N to D the clunk is very loud. Good news, that allowed me to locate the noise. Passenger side of front diff has a mounting bracket with bushing that is totally gone. Price is $100 from dealer because it comes with bushing and bracket. Hope to locate an aftermarket bushing only for less.

90% of the time thats the reason for the clunk. However, are you sure about the price quote? Thats pretty cheap. If you try to go for the fixes that others have done (e.s. bushings) they'll set you back around abit less.

I think the OEM replacement should be around 300 to 400 though, and yes, they replace the entire cross member that has the bushing that supports the front diff.
