Clock display brightness
I've noticed in the daytime it is very hard to see the clock and info on the factory bose 6 disk changer unit I have in the H3 that I bought 2 weeks ago. Usually in vehicles when the lights are off the display is fairly bright, and then when you turn headlights on, the display dims down. Not so on this radio, it stays exactly the same. You can dim it down further with the control once the lights are on, but if the control is at full brightness and the lights are turned off, it stays exactly the same. I searched for some topics on this and came up with only one, which had only a couple of non helpful replies. I suppose this is just the way this unit is made. I do like the sound of the system, but I hate not being able to read the display in the day..

The old... we must be too stupid to see a vehicle in broad daylight unless the headlights or other DRLs are on. Just like people are too stupid to LOOK at their tires before they drive so we have TPMS, and too stupid to learn how to use mirrors before backing up so we have rear cameras, too stupid to figure out where they are going before they leave so there is NAV.... The list goes on.

I have to add: people are to stupid to dial the phone number, so they text.
You figured it out, turn your lights off in daylight, the radio dims assuming you do not need a bright display at night which is when the headlights must be on. The auto on headlight thing is just one of those BS safety things, first thing I do in daytime is put the truck in gear and turn off the lights. If you are a safety freak, then just squint at the radio.
