Angry Chrome pitted wheels worth sandblasting?

Hey Guys!

I have been a member of this site an generally don't post much on here but I am constantly surfing the site.

I have a set of 20 inch chrome Helos that I have had since I bought the Hummer. They have been threw northern winters and thru it all, however they have been pitting on me. I am wanting some new shoes for the baby however just doesn't seem to fit into the plans right now.

Sooo the questions is, if I sand blast the chrome pitted rims, and then powder coat them black....will the continue to show the pit and revert and look jacked up ? or will the be like new?

Thank you for any responses I am not sure how they will turn out so I figured I would check with the Hummer Experts on here before I dish out the money.

I have sandblasted many items with heavy pits. Yes you will see them thru powder coating, if you want to make the pitting is harder to see (depending on how deep they are) i would powder them flat black.

Or after having them blasted you could have them painted by a body shop and they (or you) could fill the pits with a light weight filler prior to painting.

Thanks ak47dennis! I am wanting to get them powdered flat black originally anyway so that will work. I will definitely have them filled then, they are not too bad yet but just to be safe. I have a buddy who owns a shop I will take them up there. I appreciate the response!

Cody, you can't powder over the filler you will only be able to paint over.

sandblasted some chrome rims with a cheap sandblaster from harbor freight, the more aggressive the media the more it will smooth out some minor pitting, we ended up with playsand from lowes and it removed a lot of material from rims they turned out nice, as long as the pits aren't really bad it should turn out ok, (the blaster came with aluminum oxide media and it wasn't aggressive enough)
