Even though there were reports that their interest faltered after touring HUMMER’s facilities in the United States,
China-based auto manufacturer Changfeng may still be interested in acquiring the brand in a joint venture with AM General, a report says.

Seems like the Chinese have a pretty good headstart on the H1 already. Look familiar? I did a double take when I first saw pictures of these while researching Chinese weaponry. No that is not an American Hummer. BTW, their main battle tank looks just like a German Leopard 2
That is one of the PLA's general purpose military trucks! Seems AM General left one at a trade show in China in 1988. The Chinese were not officially interested, but someone (Dongfeng, one of their truck manufactures)decided to reverse engineer. Sure, they stole it, but that takes talent. Plus, it probably costs less than half the price.
In other words, they don't really have to buy the tooling for the H1, they already build a pretty good one. They just have to buy the brand. Now, Chrysler....that they would like to buy, because then the would have access to the M1A1 Abrams tank!

Apparently the Dongfeng HQ 2050 has been on the civilian market in China since 2007, minus the weaponry and armor.

Not cheap though, at 1.4 Million RMB. On the other hand, if GM goes under, at least you can get spare parts for the Dongfeng.
On another note, while researching this, I came across some other info about Chinese reverse engineering. It seems that some Stinger missles made it over the Afghan border during the war with the Soviets. They copied it, improved its range and accuracy. I'm going to give them my H3 and see if they can copy it!
