Default "cash for clunkers"

OK, so the Hummer-to-China subject has been beaten pretty hard. How about we return to this one:

"House OKs $4 billion 'clunker' bill...The measure would give consumers vouchers worth as much as $4,500 to turn in gas guzzlers and buy new cars that are more fuel efficient..."

Once again our hard earned tax dollars going to subsidize those who pay little or no taxes. So, how will the Democrats pay for this?? A luxury tax on large vehicles? Look out!!

Cobalt, Focus, and Jetta Diesel leases are now just over $100 a month in my neck of the woods. If a person can't swing these payments already, they have no business buying a new car! Isn't this type of thinking what helped get us to where we are now anyway?

"Clunker" is likely just just our adminstration's attempt to throw a bone to the Greenies and car dealerships.

If Obama really wanted to help citizens, shouldn't he step up to the plate and pay our car insurance premiums instead? LOL

people who pay little or no taxes? how much tax people pay has nothing to do with this. i pay a fortune in taxes every year, both personal and corporate, and im thinking about turning in my old beater truck for a nice 4500 dollar voucher on a new truck. im not a democrap, and this is a topic that has been discussed in this country for a LONG time. the idea has been implemented overseas and has worked to move cars off of lots, and why are you against anything that keeps another american in a job?

also, i dont think that youre looking at this the right way. The odds are good that someone who cant afford to pay insurance arent going to be able to afford to get a new vehicle even if they can get the 4500. someone should also point out that there are stipulations...you cant just take a car from the junkyard and trade it on a new vehicle...you have to buy a new vehicle that gets quite a bit better mileage than the one that youre trading in, the vehicle must be registered and insured, etc.

some crackhead living in downtown detroit who loves him some obama and who drives a 1988 ford escort, rotted to the frame probably cant afford any new vehicle on the market even with 3500-4500 in vouchers. they would have to come up with the rest of the money, and even on the cheapest car in the country, they would still either need to come up with the rest of the money in cash, or try to get a loan...and considering how broke they are, the odds of them getting a loan right now arent very good.

Come on! How the heck will this program be paid for?

From the news:
"Senate appropriators are also debating providing $1 billion in a supplemental war funding bill for the cash-for-clunkers program. But the one-year program is expected to cost $4 billion, so lawmakers would have to find additional funds."

This is another bail-out for a missmanaged industry. Also, how many of us who pay the overwhelming majority of income taxes have cars worth less than $3500 or $4500? So, what if your "beater truck" is worth $3000. Your benefit will be $500 or $1500.

My increase in taxes to cover lousy bills like this one will be much more.

probably the same way bush had us all pay to rebuild iraq...tax money.

and 4 billion? maybe after all of the red tape and govt bs...to actually pay out 4bil in "cash", people would have to turn in something like 1.1 million cars. i would venture to say that most of the people who have cars that they are willing to turn in for 3500 bucks still arent going to have the money or financing leverage to go through with the program anyway.
