Hi. I am a newbie here, hoping for some help with a problem that just developed in our 2007 H3. It has 111K miles on it, is automatic, and is not used hard.

The car is not turning off. You can put it in park, turn it off, and it will not shut down. Stays on. Open the door, shut the door, and it turns off seconds later. This morning, came out and the battery, which was just replaced in January, was dead. Jumped it, drove it 20 miles, and it did this when we got it home. I assume this is an issue with the ignition switch, but maybe someone else has had the same issue.

hoping this is an easy fix. We just got it back from having a defective transmission replaced (failed after 12K miles). We aren't the first owners of this car. I guess whoever had it before didnt take care of it.

 

Nope not normal.

Your going to want to track down the parasitic drain.

I am going with bad ignition switch. There are videos out there on how to swap it out with a new one, pretty simple job.

 

Sounds like something with the interior lights is back feeding power to the PCM. Start with the ignition switch as the Doc suggested. I'm thinking there is two wires shorted together somewhere. Could be a bad relay or possible BCM failure. What happens if you turn off the key in gear or neutral?

 

Turbo timer no but does sound like ignition.

When we purchased our 07 we got all the service records(alot of them) and one had a similar issue in the notes it said vehicle would stay running until they hit the column and then it would shut off.They changed out a ignition and fuse box.
