Lightbulb Can't decide on H2 or H3

I'm coming from a 2004 Cadillac Escalade ESV. Some butthole ran into me and wrote it off so now I'm thinking of buying a Hummer!! My instinct was an H3 to "save money on gas" as it gets slightly better mileage than the slade..

I have 2 choices

1) I can get a 2006 H3 with 95,000 miles
2) I can get a 2003 H2 with with 95,000 miles

They are the same price. What would you get?

The "3" can do just as much as the "2" and it can go places off road that the "2" can not go.
Parking is easier in the "3" and you will get slightly less dirtier looks.
If you have a normal garage, you will be able to park the "3" inside
There is also a wealth of great advice right here for the "3"
If you can, shop around and try for a late 07 and earlier "3"

Once you make a choice, post up some pics

I had a 3 and now I have a 2. Obviously not everyone will have the same opinion, but for me the decision would be between an H3 Alpha and an H2. If you are limited to an I5 H3, I'd go '07+ for the slightly larger engine then immediately get a PCM4Less.

I agree with wftuner, but let me break down the comparison in the way I see it:

H3 is more convenient and practical. If you want to wheel it, get one with lockers (not necessary, a non-locker version is very capable, but lockers are even better). If you can swing it, you'd be happier with an Alpha. If I had to choose I'd take an H3 Alpha without lockers over an I5 Adventure (lockers).

H2 is more plush and comfortable and can carry a lot more. Ignoring mpg and potential size issues such as fitting on a trail or a cramped parking lot, I'd rather drive the H2. My wife occasionally drove my H3 and H3T, but so far has refused to drive my H2. However, she likes riding in my H2 far more than she did in my H3/H3T.

For something very different - if you never plan to wheel it or take if offroad on anything more than a dirt road, a Tahoe would be another good choice. Better mpg, in-between size, nice and comfortable. The only real drawback is the lack of offroad ability.

I'd go for a 3 if it was an Alpha only. My old man at the I-5 H3 and he hated it, terrible gas mileage and underpowered were his words.

You can park a stock height H2 in a garage. I put a GOBI stealth rack on mine and it fits in the garage just fine.

I have both, a 06 H3 and a 03 H2. I enjoy the H2 more.

Same here, '08 H2 and '09 H3. I like the H2 for comfort ride especially on the long trips with lots of cargo space. For off-road, i'll take the H2 anyday over the H3.

Opinions, opinions. ..lol!
You now the saying.
Jmho.
I'd purchase an 08 or newer h3 because of the cast iron differential and a few bugs worked out of em. I've looked into H2 and mpg is less of a concern than age and mileage. A lot of the 06 and older are huge miles like 150k plus that I've seen.

I was shopping for an H2 and couldn't find any clean ones in the price range we were shopping. We happened to see a H3 matching color with my 3 and it followed us home at almost 1/2 the price of the H2's. Condition is important. For what I wanted the H2- V8 power, space and capabilities, we found the H3 still met our goals.

It really depends on what you want out of a vehicle. Can you tell us your price range, what it will be used for and your mechanical ability? Also, let us know why you* want a HUMMER and the true recommendations will follow.

I ended up getting the original H3 that I looked at. It was in superb shape, very well maintained.
