A/C Repair - PAG Oil & Flushing
Added this thread on this subject for everyone.
Just about to repair my A/C with a Compressor+Clutch, Dryer, Condenser, Orifice Tube (Expansion Valve), O-Ring , PAG Oil kit.
The PAG Oil supplied with the kit is PAG 46 which I assume will be the required grade but no quantity was quoted.
There doesn't seem to be any details in the manual for PAG Oil, for a Hummer H2 05 does anyone know:-
Also having gone this far is it absolutely necessary to do an A/C Syetem Flush and how easy is it to do?
If so any details on the method and what components e.g. Evaporator Core, Hoses etc
The Rock Autos parts are also showing an "A/C Refridgerant Filter" is this a necessary item to change, again any details?
Any information much appreciated.

- How much PAG Oil to add (drain, measure, add dye)?
- How and where to add the PAG Oil (directly into Hi+Lo side of the compressor and spin) ?
- What grade/type of PAG Oil to use (got PAG 46 or 100 to hand)?

I'll try to add a little from my somewhat limited knowledge. A filter is sometimes added after a system has sat open to the elements and may have possible contamination. The filter is installed in the lines, the system charged up and after some number of days is brought back in, evacuated, the filter removed and discarded, then recharged again. The idea is to catch any remaining contaminants in the system. Generally a system is not flushed unless there is some sort of catastrophic failure that would cause severe contamination of the system.
The attached are the official GM service documents from the GM eSi system which should be quite helpful.
Shows the capacities and some other info like bolt torque specs, etc. On oil - using automatic recovery/recharge machines, those have an oil injector. When manually doing one, not really sure - I'd have to google around a bunch.

Many thanks MixManSC, brilliant response and very helpful information!
You are right about Google search, it seems you can put PAG Oil directly into the Hi and Lo sides of the compressor and then gently turn it over by hand a few times, some compressors come pre-loaded with oil. Not saying this is correct but seems logical.
Cant thank you enough for the info!
