Brake and Steering Chatter? Need Help!
Hi All.
New to this forum, but not a new owner.
I have a'95 gas H1 Wagon. It has 30K miles. Last night pulling it into my shop the brake pedal started chattering any time you put pressure on it. Almost like anti locks do when they are working. Also when you put any pressure on the steering wheel to turn it it produces the same chattering sound and feel but through the wheel not the brake pedal. It happened whether I was moving or stopped. I checked both steering fluid and brake fluid and they were both normal. No signs of leaks either. The chattering makes it feel like it is un-driveable.
Anyone run into this before? Any suggestions?
Thanks
Greg

I haven't had those symptoms before in my rig, but it sounds like your power steering pump is failing, which affects both the steering and hydroboost for the brakes...
If it were me, I would replace it right away, you don't want to lose power steering and hydroboost while you are on the road in that 7k lb. beast.

I don't think you would see those symptoms when you apply turning pressure to the steering wheel alone if the problem was with the hydroboost -- a new pump isn't a huge expense, I would swap in a new one.
