Bluetooth on factory nav unit help
Hi
I am considering upgrading my 2008 H3 alpha's radio to a factory 2009 radio with nav. I know in 2009 they added bluetooth to the h3, my question is the bluetooth module in the factory radio/nav unit or is it part of the onstar module. I am told I can easily switch the factory radio of my 08 (non nav) with a factory nav unit from an 09 (the 09 does have different part numbers from the 08 nav unit) but the main reason I would like to do this is for bluetooth, and keeping everything simple/factory with no need to add extra stuff to get the bluetooth to work. I really hate extra brackets/adapters/mic's ect cluttering up the inside of my hummer.
are the buttons to control bluetooth on the touchscreen or somewhere else??
thanks
Jason

Having a 09 H3, I can tell you that the bluetooth / phone button is separate from the radio. When you press the button, it uses the mic in the headliner for communication (same as the onstar) and lowers the stereo to talk until the call is ended. The same is true when an incomming call is detected. All your bluetooth phones and phone #'s are saved using your own speech through the use of this button (it has a picture of a person talking on it next to the headlight controls. I am sure it can be done, although you may need a little more than just the stereo. Hope this helps?
Thanks, and that's what i was afraid of, it seems like maybe the onstar module is handling the bluetooth control. I want to use the mic in the headliner like you described instead of installing an aftermarket mike. where is the phone button located?
does anyone know of any aftermarket radios that have complete integration with the onstar system so I can use the onstar mic and buttons for phone calls? I'm not having much luck finding one, and would still like to consider staying factory if i dont have do to many mods
