'06 H3. Stealership says BCM is stuck in "Learning Mode". Result, security light stays on & they want $680 for the module and say that's the only fix. Claim it won't affect operation or reliability.

Any suggestions? Or thoughts?

 

Do you have a sunroof? Passenger side floor ever been wet?

a new BCM will cost just a tad over $200, but it has to be programmed to your vehicle. Go to a different dealership, or call around and get prices, any GM dealer can do it for you, IF that is the problem.

The security light may just be a Pass Lock problem, Google it.

 

Ask them if they attempted a pass through theft learn with new keys. Its very possible the BCM is at fault but can also be due to incorrect programming. The system needs a correct key cut to send the ok message to bcm. If ignition keys are excessively worn it can send a invalid security code but its close enough to allow it to start. Pretty rare that that occurs but cheaper than a bcm. And yes it will continue to start and run in this mode but the flashing theft light gets annoying
