Default Auto -vs- Manual

Howdy:

Well sometime this year I'm going to pull the trigger on an H3. I took one out for a test drive and just loved it. I have always liked driving a stick shift, The dealer that I went to did not have one on the lot at the time, so I tooled around in an automatic. Has anyone out there had the chance to compare a 3.7 auto to a 3.7 stick? What were your thoughts.

Thank You

Haven't compared but I know it can be tough to find a 5 speed. I tried to get one when I bought my H3 and there weren't any 5 speeds on the lot. I'd like to have the lower range of the 5 speed offroad but I also like the ease of the auto offroad. And I've always trusted GM autos more than I've trusted (or liked) their manual cars and trucks.

Nope. I have an auto in the H3 Alpha. It has been a great truck. The times I am glad it is an auto far outweigh the times I wish I had a manual transmission.

I have the 5-speed and love it!! Gas mileage remains constant @ 17.75 mpg's combined. I also had the opportunity to drive an automatic while my H-3 was in for a warranty issue. Besides the lack of left foot action, I noticed no difference in power or ride, but did seem to go through fuel a bit faster. However, that is simply an opinion as I did not measure MPG's.

I have a stick. When I bought mine in Oct. '06, the dealer told me there were only 2500 of them made. I have the I-5 though. It's great off-roading. You don't really need the rear locking differential or the off-road package. I never got stuck where some of the auto's did. I have driven the '07 and '08 automatic 3.7L as well as the Alpha, and my 3.5L with some of my mods is equal or faster then the 3.7L

The shifting is also very smooth, the smoothest I've had in any stick, and I've owned quite a few. Although I'm getting tired of driving stick, on the H3 it's a good choice, IF you can actually find one

With so few made, they are hard to find.

Order one how you want it and wait the 6 weeks.

I wanted a Lux with the Adventure Package and sun roof so I had to order mine.

I wish the Alpha had a 5-speed!

Slush Box vs. Lever Action, ring side, .....Howard Cosell here.

In the white trunks is Auto Matic, the "Slush Box", the select an go solution to most any diving situation.

In the opposite corner, in the red trunks, is The Stick Shift, emanual the manual, ready for any daunting task its driver can imagine.

Tonight, what's right isn't always popular. What's popular isn't always right. We have a spectacular event this evening as the ring girl exits.............WOW, did you see that ring girl's ?........Moments before the bell folks, and the anticipation has filled the arena.

i have the 5 andlove it. but i love to drive manuals. i think it is all up to you and what you want. just cuz 10-14 people here say they like or hate 5 speeds or autos really means nothing. they both are good but you have to make the payments. get what YOU like..
