Default Attempted theft

Went to Kroger's about 3pm today and came out found the steering column ripped apart and the passenger door lock knocked in. Very crowded parking lot and they still did it. I believe they hit several others there also as I heard an alarm going off walking in and one walking out - did not think anything of it in this area.

Don't know what stopped them from taking mine. They were at the point of turning the ignition lock - it is broke. But key still works. I believe the alarm system in these vehicles are near worthless... (05 H2 Lux)

Anyway, I found the lock cylinder on Amazon for about $30. It is a factory H2 key. Should I get the passlock bypass also?

BTW - now I have no locks on the doors. I'll likely just put metal plates behind the holes with solid grommets. Never used them anyway.

Is there a wire (I know there is) that works well for having a starter disconnect under the dash or should I get a Viper alarm. I don't mind buying a Viper as I want one anyway, but that is the most confusing descriptions of products I have ever seen. It seems they just add in remote start and use the OEM worthless alarm system.

Also, does anyone know where I can get the plastic piece under the column from the lock to the blinker switch? They took that with them.

Thanks everyone. Been a bad day even before this happened. But they took nothing else, didn't even see/take the Ruger LCP

fnfal,
Sorry this happened to you, but I am glad there isnt a stolen Hummer out there.... or a gun (which I think would be worse).

Ok, now let me add my two cents...
All car alarms are worthless.
What happens?
They go off... they make that annoying woo woo woo beep beep beep sound... and everyone goes ugh not again and tries to ignore it.
And even with it going off, most theives no how to get them to turn off fast.
If the thief has already gone that far, they will steal your vehicle.

I would look into hooking up a starter or battery delete switch outside the truck, if you really want to keep it from being stolen.
Otherwise, there is a company that makes plates for the doors that keep thieves from prying into the locks and such.
I dont have the name of the place off hand, but you can look it up online... if not I can find it.
It allows you to still keep the locks.
I wouldnt do a lock delete, unless you have a back up to get in... and then if you figure you have it... they can find it.

Like I said, the bad guys are determined and if they want it, they will get it.
And someone so bold to do this in the middle of day, in the middle of a busy parking lot, had to be a pro.

Hope this helps

Sorry to hear about your break in, man. It sucks that everyone is so disconnected that this stuff happens in a busy parking lot in broad daylight. Like Jsbihn says...even with an alarm-no one cares about anything anymore or would say or do anything if they saw it. I had an alarm on my bike that would page me if it went off. I might look into that for my H2. Not to preach but don't ever leave an unsecured gun in your vehicle.

fnfal,

Sorry to hear about the break in, that sucks. I am parting out a spare H2 and I am pretty sure that bottom piece is in good shape, I will go check and make sure later today. PM me your details and I will ship it to you.

Pistol is usually in my pocket, but just forgot to slip it in there. This is not a place to need it as it is a really nice area. Live and learn.

Found why they walked off from it. They tried to remove the ignition lock but the ring around the end of it that they were prying on broke off. got to be too long to take it.

Probably getting a viper alarm with 2 way remote. Will have starter circuit turn off but may not be part of alarm. I think the viper even has a locator.

Been reading, problem is the alarm will not go off just by opening the doors. The next one will and will be harder to turn off. There will also be a lock on the hood. Even if they get to the point of stealing it, they will not want to drive it down the highway with the alarm going off. It will be a very loud alarm. Other than that, I have insurance.

Ran across the plates for the door locks earlier today. Hummer H2 door panel removal

I am going to look at the door locks. I'd like to custom build something out of aluminum to wrap completely around the lock to stop it from turning.

You are right, anything can be stolen, but make it hard to steal and they will go to the next. Slow them down and they will walk away. It never sits where anyone would have unlimited time.

So
1) Stop access to engine compartment (remove internal hood release or lock it)
2) Make it harder to get door open
3) Steering column collar?
4) Make alarm impossible to turn off without remote (can't get to battery)
5) Alarm on doors - if they open alarm sounds
6) Push on brake, alarm sounds

I believe that would be good enough. Any thing else? I could install solenoid to stop shifter from moving from park.

Sucks!

I've had billet door buckets sitting in my garage for years. I've been too terrified to take the door panels off for fear of cracking or breaking something so install them. Although now my Bose door speakers are blown so I need to get everything together and do it all at once.

Reason I say this is:

The JimmyJammer and even billet door buckets will only slow a thief down. Instead of just punching the lock cylinders they will end up destroying the door skin itself and eventually still get in.

Now to me the billet door buckets is the better route to go for piece of mind. I think the sight of big aluminum buckets would itself be a deterrent.

Get an alarm with an immoblizer. My wifes yukon was stolen which shares the same locks and steering column. We replaced the truck with another yukon and had the alarm with immobiliZer installed. They have tried to get her truck 5 times from her work. Always during the day in a crowded mall parking lot. But have never succeeded. I have had to deal with smashed lovk and columns though. You are right the factory alarms are junk. They stole our first yukon in about 40 Seconds as my wife watched them pull up and steal it.

My 3 cents ...

A few momths ago I got a safe center console vault ... mostly to store my dangerous .45 when it is not close to me .
I've been thinking on insyall a kill switch inside the vault so any theft will need to figure out first there is a kill switch . Second where is it and then open the vault .
All that with an alarm going and a locked hood ...
My alarm is a cliford with all the sensors ... proximity ( which os a pia) knock sensor and off course the open window/door

Also there is a kill switch in the alarm and a two way transmiter with 1 mile range
Proximity semsor may be a bad idea cause due to lot of false alarms you may get use to it ... Not me .. I checked everytime the alarm sound ..
However like said before nothing is going to stop a determined theft. . A lojac or tracking gps cojld be useful too

I confess. I had bad dreams of my H2 being stolen and I shotting at the guy driving .. ( paranoid? )
