Asking for feedback and information,
Howdy,
This is my first post. I am looking for some good, honest feedback. First off let me confess, I am pretty much a Blue Oval guy, and most of my off road vehicles have been Jeep (a number of CJ5, CJ7, Wranglers, Cherokees, Commando, Grand Cherokees).
However, I am looking for a good vehicle to tow behind our motorhome that has room for at least 4 or 5 in resonable comfort and can be towed 4 wheels down. I also need a vehicle that will crawl, dig and pull through slick, nasty Texas black clay when needed to get into our Ranch when Mother Nature creates a mess.
So if I may ask a few questions?
First does the above look like a H3 would fill my needs. Do you find the power of the Hummer acceptable or does it feel sluggish or leave you wanting more HP/TQ.
While I would like to find a great deal on a new H3, there do seem to be some good prices out there on used vehicles. I understand there were some cylinder head problems on the 07 to early 08 models...are there any other items that need to be looked very close at?
Does anyone have any experiance with pulling a H3 behind their motorhome, if so how does it tow, any regreats in your choice.
Last question...at least for now. I understand that Hummer is soon to be an Orphan Vehicle, but that GM has said they will continue to service the vehicle and provide parts, so this is not a concern. However with dealerships closing soon, are there any good leads as to dealerships that are starting to deep discount inventory?
Thanks in advance for your assistance,

An H3 can do everything your wanting. If you like any of the Jeeps you listed then power shouldn't be an issue, I'm pretty sure I could blow the doors off of a Cherokee or a TJ wrangler (I would know, driven several), even with my 35s. There are some times that I wish it had more power but thats probably just because I'm used to sports cars. Its perfectly fine for normal driving.
As for the cylinder head problems, I think those only applied to '06 models. I bought an '07 because I was worried about this too. The '07s are covered by GM's 5 year/100k mile powertrain warranty. They still honor it, I used the warranty last week for a PCM problem. So, even if there is a head problem, you're covered til 2012 if you're under 100k.
I'd get a used one if I were you. When I was at the dealership for warranty work last week I saw a 2010 H3 IDENTICAL to mine in every way except it was $43k and mine was $21k with 50k miles. They lose half their value right off the lot, even if you get a deal.
The only benefits I can see to buying new are the bumper-to-bumper warranty and the new car smell. But I don't believe that you are going to have $20k in repairs outside of the powertrain (which is still covered in the used ones built '07 and up)... and you can always get your carpets cleaned and buy an air freshener for alot less than $20k.

Also, if you've got the money for a new one, buy an '08 alpha. Those things are fast as hell... mileage sucks but if you drive a motorhome large enough to pull an H3, mileage should be the least of your concerns.
I think they get like 13 mpg, which isn't much different from the 3.7l with 35s, I'm getting 14-15. I'd suffer the 1mpg for an extra 65 horsepower and all that torque.

I appreciate your feedback. I must addmitt, I like new, but I also don't have any problem allowing someone else to take the inital loss of depreciation. I have sound many nice H3s in the low to mid $20K range, I am hoping that there will be some deep discounts hitting the sales lots very soon.
As for MPG, I just sold my F-550 Ford Hauler with the 6.4 diesel which averaged 11.4 mpg. My F-250 V-10 6-speed manual nets me the same mpg. While the motorhome gets a whopping 7.7 mpg.
If anyone else care to sound in here, please do.

I have been very impressed with our little H3. It is not to be underestimated!! Think of it as the H2's little bother that thinks its a big dog. It packs a big punch and loves to be tested. Mud, snow or anything I have tossed at it has been defeated. I don't mistreat it but I certainly make it give me respect. You can't go wrong with a Hummer
