Ok if u try to get an alternator from advance or auto zone, DO NOT get the one thy have lists for the AM General Hummer. It is completely wrong. You have to get one for the van application of the 6.5 TD. The mounts are wrong on the one they have listed. Now you have to change the plug on ur wiring harness to fit the van application alternator I just spend 3 days trying to get all this figured out. FYI

 

The one for the heavy duty van and trucks should be correct.

 

So I had to return the one that was for the 97 3500 van with a 6.5 te. The over all size of the alternator was smaller then the OEM. Which in turn brought the pulley closer to the centerline of the engine. So much so that my tentioner couldn't even put tention on the belt. So I chalked this one up as a loss. Went and got my core back. Gonna drop it off to get rebuilt on monday. Oh well it was worth a try
