Greetings Hummer Enthusiasts,

I am currently looking at purchasing a black 2007 H3 with 85k miles but am concern with the amount of rust the undercarriage contains and would greatly appreciate any thoughts on whats shown in the pics below

 

Vehicle from the Northeast or Midwest? Road salt maybe?

 

Looks like salt took a toll on it. Perhaps a wire brush, rust remover and a new coating of paint would help?

Also, be sure to check the radiator for leaks, check the engine for a misfire, check for any interior water intrusion. Seems those are common occurrences

That rust is common for any vehicle in the snowier parts of the country. It's just surface rust and would not be a concern to me.
Like Norinco says above, it can be cleaned up if it bothers you.
Be more concerned about the things he lists.

 

the H3 is located in NJ, I'll def take your advise Norinco, thanks everyone for your input

 

Also having a trusted mechanic, familiar with H3's, thoroughly check out a used car is always a worthwhile investment.

 

Looks like the underside of everything in MI that has been through winter.

That's why they make undercoating.

 

looks like just surface rust but also seems to be a small leak on the transfer case id be more concerned with

 

I wish I took before and after pics of my rust after taking a wire brush and paint to it. Looks brand new.

I also noticed the saturation of fluid from the transfer case. Check all fluid levels, make sure they're adequate. Also, inspect all cv seals for leakage. A code scanner would be great after taking it for a good test drive. I bring mine and you can watch the salesman squirm as you inspect the car lol

 

Actually it doesn't look like so bad and rusty compare to what could be done by long Canadian winter and permanent road salt damage for this period of time. Like guys said You can remove this rust and put under body black anti-rust protection, but really better check the oily spot from transfer case. But, in generally, truck is looks like very nice! Go for it!
