Default Advice on Tire Size

This is a question for the Alpha owners on tire sizes. I have a 2008 Alpha.
I am at the point of buying new tires and trying to decide on the stock 285's or going to 305's.

What is the opinion of owners that have tried the 305's? Good choice or stay with 285's?

Did you happen to read the other "tire" posts on this forum ?
They mentioned the exact concerns you are asking.
Give them a read, they might be helpful

And when you do read those posts,
Tainter, Mutaint, Halo and Doc have solid info concerning this
You should heed their advice

My advice would e the 305's, wider, but not taller

wfturner, I did search and read their post and they had great info. I just wanted to make sure there was not someone unhappy with them that for some reason did not post. Thanks for the advice on wider, not taller.

Not that it matters much, but if the option was there I would have gone taller, not wider instead of taller and wider.

315/75R16s on all of our Alphas with no complints. Even have 1 now with 37x12.50R16s and it needs some regearing but not really all that bad at 85+mph.

Yep, you will take a small hit on your mileage. I hope you didn't buy an H3 Alpha for the mileage!!

I run 305s on my 07, inch wider than 285s. If I had an Alpha I would run 315s.

You guys really make it tough on a fella trying to make a decision. Too many choices.
I thought I had it narrowed to a 305 with either Duratracs or MTZ's.
Now after the last post by kflips, Tainter and Doc Olds I redid my searching and have decided on 315's but still deciding between Duratracs and MTZ's.
Ironically the best price on either is at the local Tire Rack dealer for the Duratracs at $254 a tire with a $60 rebate. No shipping but will have to pay sales tax. If anyone stumbles onto a better deal in the next week let me know.
Thanks for the advice.

No right or wrong answer, 305s are great, so are 315s. With the I5, I just chose to retain the factory final gear ratio with 33" tires, with the extra muscle of the V8 the 315s are not that much of an issue. Just my humble opinion. You probably will do a tad better on MPG with 305s vs 315 as well.

Allright Doc...
I see how you are! First you recommend the 315's so I will have to spend more money. Then when I make my mind up to do it you go the other way and say it's 50 / 50. Which puts me back where I started.
Your worse than my wife on trying to figure out.
I am going to get the 315's. I have never seen the Duratracs or the MTZ's in person other than pictures. Does one look more agressive than the other? Are they similar in sand and dirt?
I am like a lot of Noobies. Just trying to nail down last thoughts before I pull the trigger.
