Default advice

I have wanted a Hummer since I was 14 years old and they were made available to the public. Now, 18 years later, I am getting ready to buy. I see many available on ebay every week. Has anyone made an ebay purchase? what should I be looking for, years? Any direction would be appreciated.

Thank you

I have not bought a vehicle from eBay. I know one person that did and he had a good experience with it. I would recommend buying from someone with a significant number of transactions and a very high %, if not perfect, user rating. Also if possible post up a truck you are interested in and hopefully someone on the forum is close enough to go inspect it for you.
Get the VIN # and call Lynch or Tustin Hummer and have them run the vehicle service history for you. Carfax is an imperfect system but get a carfax on it also. The main thing is that the vehicle is current on service. Many people seem to sell H1s when they are getting close to needing work. That is fine but you need to know what the truck needs so you can adjust your offer accordingly.
Will the truck be a daily driver, a weekend toy, garage pet, heavy duty wheeling machine?

It will start out as a weekend toy/hunting truck. I plan on making a project out of it, start out with a stock H1, which is a serious machine itself, and as time goes on, add to/replace parts, to make it a more serious weekend toy. Is there a year that is best? What are your thoughts on the Alpha's?

The Alphas are awesome. Prices seem to range from 95k-120K right now. Wagons cost more than OT. For hunting I prefer the wagons. I hate leaving guns in an OT. Better protection for your gear also.
97.5 and 98 models are popular with wheelers since they have the upgraded HVAC and are pre-TT4. The 2001-2003 years are very popular also.

The K series trucks were generally fleet trucks. I believe they came with the heavy duty half shafts and hub gears also.

I agree the 2001-2003 years are a good buy with alot of problems worked out from previous years.
