Adding Subs
Does anyone know IF the dashboard needs to be totally removed in order to install subs, or can just the radio part be taken out? Is there somewhere I can get info about this?
Thanks!
Michal

Hi Bryan
Thanks for the reply. A friend is installing 15" subs with an amp in the trunk, hooked up to the factory head unit (for now). It's an '07 H3 and I would appretiate any help as we cant seem to find any info on removing the relavent part of the dash.
Thanks

All you should have to do to remove the area surrounding the existing head unit is pop it out. Also, keep in mind that there are probably no RCA pre-outs on your factory unit, some something like this http://http://www.installer.com/item...p?it=AOEM-GM24
would be needed. On a side note, if your running 2-15's and a decent amp, I would recommend a capacitor.
(you can also ghetto rig your amp to run off of the outputs from your speaker wires if you don't want to buy the adapter)

Hi Bryan
My friend told me to buy a wiring kit and I forget the name of the thing he said it should have in it, a largish, heavy, turbular thing, but I think that is the capacitor. He said something about not draining power. He has been installing subs for years but he said he has never worked on a Hummer and was afraid to crack the dash by pulling on somthing that still had screws in it. Thanks for the help!

Bryan, I have an 06 h3 and there is an amp next to the sub in the left rear wheel well..... there is 4 wires going to the sub it is a dual coil sub. Crutchfield has wiring diagrams on there web site for any kind of hook up. U can run 2 single coils or one double coil sub. Unless u want to replace the head unit leave it alone it runs your chimes for doors, lights, low tire etc. Also if u replace the head unit u need to get an adapter for your navigation {antenna} for on-star or it will not work also..
Hi Bryan
Had the subs installed this weekend, the dash popped out just as you said, and they sound awesome! Only thing is, today the battery was flat and I could not get the key out of the ignition. Once the battery was jumped the key came out (and the problem with the amp draining power was sorted out). But is this normal for an H3 key to get stuck in the ignition when the battery goes dead?
Thanks
