I really want a Hummer H1 and have been doing a lot of home work. I found this siteBuying a Used Hummer and What to Look For. Gas vs. Diesel which I have seen on a few posts on this site.

In the article he states "The 98 has been labeled the best truck AMG has made to date (aside from the new 06 Duramax Alpha)."

Just wanted to see if this is what others feel. I and going to use the hummer as a daily driver since my work is only 2 miles away and curising around town should be fun. but with the occasional highway and off-roading to. I am currently looking at a 98 with back up plans in case the motor block is cracked (from what I read is common).

Any opinions would be nice to have. thanks!

 

Do as mush research on your 98 engine as possible.
I have one and love it.
It took me several weeks but I finally found out that my engine was swapped under warranty and only had 36K on it.

It is Tustin Hummer in Tustin, CA and the can run the VIN and see if the block was swapped under warranty. Many were swapped post warranty. Ask for Rob or Mike. I had to replace my block at 80,000 miles on my 98. my old 97 is pushing 100k with no issues. Avoid a third of the trucks had a problem. Many consider the 98 the best year because it was the most advanced year of development prior to the introduction of TT4.(traction control )

 

I recent had bought the 98 hummer, the guy had all paper of everything that had ever been done it, including an engine swap in 2004. I don't think much of the motor is original, but I am just fine with that. runs great and I enjoy driving it.
