Default 3 inch Lift

I just installed a torsion lift, 3 inch rear spacers, skyjacker monotube shocks and now I am going to have to get my drive shaft lengthened. Has anyone else had this issue with a 3 inch lift?

3" with the torsion bars is allot, how did you get past the upper a arm hitting the stops?

I did 2" on the rear of mine with no issues,

I'm looking at the Cognito upper a arms to get the ride height I want without hitting the stops.

3 inches on the torsion bars is hitting their absolute limits and is going to not only ride like **** its going to very rapidly wear out all the front suspension components since everything is at extreme angles and the limits of travel. Even cranking the torsion bars 2 inches is pushing it. To properly lift the front without destroying the suspension and ride quality is not cheap though.

The problem with cranking the torsion bars to life more than an inch or so is that you are not changing the amount of travel the front has. I'm not sure of the exact amount of travel but use 8 inches as an example. Cranking the torsion bars just makes it so that instead the the normal position being at 4 inches, by cranking the bars to rise it 3 inches just makes the normal position at 7 inches. So instead of 4 inches of travel in each direction you now have 7 inches of travel in 1 direction and 1 inch of travel in the other. For rough ride think of the torsion bars as a spring and compressing a spring further and further putting it under more and more tension. In its relaxed state it does not take much to compress it to begin with but the more you compress it the harder and harder you have to press to compress it more. Cranking torsion bars just increases the tension on them. Yes, with re-indexed the increased tension will raise the front even more too but you are still working within the original amount of travel that the suspension has and is designed for.

The rear end is far easier since you can just stick a spacer under the spring. The spring is still in its relaxed state and works as it should. Of course if you space it too much then you either need to get longer shocks or extended mounts for the shocks too.

I'm only saying all this because many are unaware of the ramifications of cranking torsion bars. I'm NOT against cranking them "some". I've cranked my own about an inch.... personally I'd not go more than about 1.5 inches. its just too hard on the suspension and the ride quality rapidly starts to suffer.

^ good points

When I installed my green keys I put the bolts back exactly where they were when I removed the stock keys by counting the number of exposed threads. This ended up giving me close to 3" of lift in the front but I agree things are maxed. The dust boots on my xtreme HD tie rods are almost pinched on the inside but it just looks so damn good lol.
