Default 2009 hummer h3 I5 3.7 L camshaft position sensor question

Hello Hummer Forum I've frequented this site since 2009 since I bought my Hummer. I have used it often and on more than one occasion it has been a life saver for me. But I've also really enjoyed just coming here and reading the posts.

now that I've retired and my life has slowed wayyyyyy down to a crawl I do miss the excitement I experienced with fire rescue. I would be running at 100 mph then enjoy coming home to my wife and slowing down to a pleasant pace with just her.

Now it's just slow and I did not know the meaning, or rather the true meaning of exactly what a honey do list was till here lately but I've more than once got the stink eye because I'd be reading a laughing about what someone had posted here.

But when I help I could alway pretty much find it here. I'd read the forums or google it.
Well I've googled till I'm just more confused than when I started.

I started having problems with it. It's in the 60k range now. I believe I got the main issue fixed I hope. But while I had it hooked up to the diagnostic computer.

I noticed some readings with fuel and air ratios. That and it had been running, idling little rough and also acting like it wanted to die sometimes when stopped also surging ect..... I notice a change in fuel mileage also.
So I'm servicing everything now while I've got the time and it's not that expensive to do so.

I read and saw plenty of info on 2007 hummers on this but not the 2009 hummers in reference to what I wanted to do. I do need to buy a service manual.

But I want to order and replace the Camshaft Position Sensors. I saw that there is an exhaust and intake on the 2007 and can actually find them listed parts wise.

I can find camshaft sensors for the 2009 hummer. But they do not list them as exhaust or intake sensors. Im looking for OEM AC DELCO parts.

Same thing with oxygen sensors. How many does the 2009 hummer have and where. I see all kinds of locations listed parts wise. I believe I did read that the 2009 hummer 3.7 L had just 2 oxygen sensors if so what are they called as far as location wise

I've got a parts order put together but I want to order everything together.

I would truely be your debt for any help. I probably sound dumb as heck asking these question and to be honest I feel stupid asking them. The hummer is the easiest vehicle I've ever worked on as far as the newer ones go. But it seems hard to get some info on it some times.

thanks guys for any help you can give me

Welcome to HF.

Clean the MAF and TB using correct MAF cleaner for the MAF, and Throttle Body Cleaner for the TB.

Take a read through this list before you change any sensors.

Thanks doc I appreciate the link. I'd already read that. As I'd stated in my post I'm changing these really because of a reading I'd gotten on a computer. Cleaning was the first thing I'd done. Your talking to a firefighter and we do much inspections of our equipment ever shift weather it needs it or not. I' trouble shooting now plus because of age and mileage and me being retired with not as much to do anymore and having nothing but time. I doing a complete over haul of components. Because I'm going to be on the rd alot with my wife.

I never to order a service manual any ways I'll get the info I need there. All I really wanted and asked for was the location of these items. Nothing more, without nothing the full story of exactly what problems I'd had with hummer there's no way you could have known what eeded replacing or weather I'd already cleaned those items.

but thanks anyways

As far as The MAF I had cleaned it several times. As stated the air to fuel ratio % reading are off plus the vehicle is not quite running right even after having the other issues fixed that gave it even more problems.

I have just time and money now to tinker the hummer and get her running like new again. Replacing those items most certainly won't hurt the hummer it'll probably end up doing more good than harm in the grand scheme of things.

but thanks anyways

I just had surgery and am typing on a stupid phone in the hospital. I ABSOLUTELY do not know how I misspelled some words or phrased some sentences. I cannot figure out how to edit here so I'm correcting myself in a quote. I'm sure the pain meds and pain I'm in right now aren't hurting anything either. My wife says I'm a horrible patient and irritable. go figure I've just been cut on. Ah ha just caught this stupid auto correct again changing entire sentences. I need to disable that. Gotta go now I'm dying right now.

What I was trying to point you to in that FAQ thread was:

"If the problem still persists:
6) Pull the camshaft actuator solenoid and look for crud on the sensor, on the screen in the motor, or a missing screen... replace if necessary, tighten mounting bolt to 10 N.m/89 lb in."

Very unlikely to have a Camshaft Position Sensor go bad unless they get crudded up or the screen is missing. Otherwise, the 3.7L motors are near identical in all but minor respects across the 2007-10 years.
