When I put in gear, it doesn't want to go very fast, but after going for awhile, it goes into overdrive with my foot all the way down on the pedal. When I try to back up, it doesn't want to shift into gear, then it slams into reverse and moves slowly. It is not acting right. Don't want to get ripped off by a transmission shop if it isn't transmission. Has anyone had this problem? Please help. Never had a problem with this vehicle, always serviced by Hummer, except last service, was advised to take to a Cadillac service center. Now my problem begins.

It is obvious your transmission needs service, likely a rebuild. As you drive it you are doing additional damage that may necessitate further repair costs and additional internal parts.

Do NOT go to a dealership, go to a reputable local AC Delco approved transmission shop. They specialize in transmissions, not charging outrageous rates for repairs like the stealerships do.

 

Doc has good advise. Find a local tranny shop that is recommended by friends and take it in for a proper diagnosis. I know a great shop in So Cal.
