2006 H3 Front differential rebuild cost???

How much should it cost to rebuild the front differential on a 2006 H3? It was in for service a few weeks ago (shop to remain nameless at this time), and on a trip from Phoenix to San Diego on the 8 (um, yeah it was hot!) the truck broke down and had to be towed to the dealer. Once the H3 was up on the flatbed, we noticed that the inspection/fill plug on the front diff housing was sitting on the skid plate! So the oil puked out and the gears were destroyed. The dealer says it needs to be rebuilt at a tune of $2200 and two weeks. For a front diff rebuild? Really?
Here's the thing, the truck is in San Diego and we're in Phoenix so they kind of have us by the cajones. Is this an accurate quote? Thanks in advance =)

Heck you can pick up a complete used front carrier for 4-500 on ebay and have it shipped to the shop and installed for another 4-500.

Contact the people that did your service see if they will pay the bill. They forgot to put the plug back in. Sue them in small claims court. Check with your insurance company.
Is it still under warranty?
