2003 Hummer H2 Issues
I want to start by saying I love this truck just have lost faith
1.) I randomly would get a "Reduce throttle" followed by a check engine light and the hummer would go into limp mode.
-----They replaced the Throttle body and the Throttle Body Sensors
1a.) The problem continues
----- I end up bringing it to the dealer they tell me it wasnt the throttle body at all it had to do with the fuse box.
WEEEE) They fix it and it runs amazing
2 DAYS LATER
2.) My transmission starts having a crazy time shifting, doesnt seem to want to go into anything above 3rd (PS its an 03 Auto Hummer) I get a Transmission Hot alert on the dash. I pull over and have it towed to the garage
-----They tell me sadly my tranny is shot and will need to be replaced (Hummer has 78k on it IM PISSED)
2a.) I go with a shop called Mad Dog Transmissions to send me a complete tranny that they say is a much better tranny and will out last the truck completely
2b.) Tranny arrived and my garage put the tranny in. I take the truck for 200miles and the shifting seems off the gas pedal has always seemed a bit weird on how the truck shifts but I read a ton about that being an H2 thing.
2c.) I take the truck for a quick 3 mile trip. The truck wont shift into anything above 2nd gear, I then get the Tranny hot alert and pull over, I notice my truck is spewing RED Liquid and open the hood, It looks like the fluid is coming from a completely FULL Surge Tank.
---- I have the truck towed back to the garage and thats where she sits as a write this.
>>> WHAT DO I DO, I just want the truck working correctly and have tried like hell to do everything the CORRECT and none cheap way.<<< Any ideas on wtf is up with the tranny/gas pedal issues or advice would be awesome.
Thanks, Sam

After the garage didn't fix your first problem and then you took it to a hummer dealer who has hummer mechanics and fixed your issue, why would you take it to any garage when it comes to the transmission issue? So you changed out the trans but not only have same error but it's leaking all over the place. When it comes to my hummer, I only let hummer techs work on it. I rather pay more and get it right than have the issues you're having now. If I were you I would tow it to hummer dealer, find out what's really wrong then demand the garage to take back and refund you the transmission you probably didn't need.
Sounds like your radiator trans cooler is shot. You need a new radiator, all new hoses and possibly another transmission. I would find a more reputable shop. Now if all they did was install a trans that you supplied them then I think the liability is on you. Keep us posted.
Well I had the truck towed to the dealership. I almost immediately get a call back that hoses where connected wrong and whomever worked on this truck shouldn't be working on any vehicle let alone the Hummer.
They replaced the radiator which they said was no doubt the reason the original transmission was damaged and should have been checked by the shop installing the tranny.
They flushed the system 3 times to make sure all the fluid where in the correct place.(They also pulled the tranny to verify that no damage was done to it because of the garages mistake)
>>>Sadly they let me know about a broken exhaust bolt (Dam thing should be a recall but it isn't << Will be a bitch at some point)
I asked them to give is an extra long road test (instead of 25min they took it for an hour) I wanted to be 100percent sure.
The big guy is all better. I purchases some new lights for him after surgery.
Dealership gave me a complete write up that I promptly brought to the garage. They said they wanted to see this work. I told them hell has frozen over if they thought they would ever be working/looking under the hood of my truck.
They fought me for a bit.... I said good thing the state of CT has a 5k limit for small claims court because I'm feeling some punitive damages coming.
They refunded me in full.

don't sweat the broken bolt ,I have an 03 also. found that I too
had a broken bolt . didn't have a problem pulling all bolts and
exhaust mainifolds off, the broken bolt came out easy and I installed
short headers. there great ,only problem is that the wife now wants them on here 05 h2 also. so this spring I will do hers.glad you have your hummer ready for winter they really give you a safe feeling when driving in bad weather. mike

Broken exhaust bolt? I I have a bunch of them. Waiting to get some long tubes first. I rebuilt my wife's 05 tranny and installed a better cooler and bypassed the radiator because I heard too many horror stories. Soon after, I had to rebuild the tranny in my 03 and did the same. I beefed up both trannies with a Monster Transmission kit but I think you can get the same if not better parts from a local transmission parts supplier. The bad thing about upgrading anything on my H2 is that my wife wants the same or better done to hers. Having a pair of H2's can get expensive.
