2003 H2, engine overheats while running ac
I have a 2003 H2, absolutely love it! My issue is that I have noticed, during normal driving, that while running the ac, my engine temps rise almost to the point of overheating. I can shut the ac off, and within 3 to 6 miles, the engine temp is right back to 195-200, where it is supposed to be. I can drive without the ac, and the engine stays perfectly at the normal running temp. As soon as I turn the ac on, within 15 minutes or so, the engine temp starts to rise. I have checked the condenser coil to make sure it is clear, everything else runs normal, trans temp and engine temp. Any direction you may have, I would greatly appreciate it!
i have a similar issue but not as extreme. my truck reaches 215-220~ with the a/c on when on the highway. when the fan engages it sounds like an air plane is taking off a long side of you lol. its easy to hear so you should know when it engages. i started by cleaning my a/c condenser and radiator. spray it down with some citrus de greaser and hose it down. youd be surprised how much garbage comes out. start by looking over the smaller things first. could also be a thermostat. it could be stuck partially open or not fully opening at required temp
Phil and Sick, I have replaced clutch fan, done a coolant flush and also did the degreaser on all the coolers in the front. So far so good, and will keep everyone posted if it comes back. Thanks for the insight.
