Default 1996 H1 Wagon 6.5 Turbo Just dies.

So, I'm driving along with no previous problems, and all of a sudden at about 55mph, the engine just stops like someone flipped a switch and then it's back on. Just like that. Then about 45 seconds later the engine just stops again but this time does not start back up. I shift into neutral and restart the engine with no problem. Then about ten seconds it stops again. Suddenly, no sputtering, just OFF. The tanks have plenty of diesel, the fuel pump is new and I can hear it operating, so I don't believe these two items to be the issue. Then, again it dies. This time I try to restart it, but it just turns over. I turn it off, and then try again, and it starts. Luckily, I was only a half of a mile away from getting home. It makes it home, and I turn it off. I then turn it back on without issue, and let it run. About five minutes goes by and it dies again. I try to start it it turns over strong, but does not start. I then turn it off, and try again. I starts, but does a couple of minutes later.

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

to me it sounds like the PMD is bad. It cuts out when it reaches a certain temp. Have you gone out in the morning since then after it sat all night long? I bet it would idle for a while before it cut off. The PMD is the Pump Mounted Driver. It is the "Brain" for your injector pump,(is an easy way to put it). It is mounted on the driver side of the injector pump down in the valley of the motor. It is EXTREMELY hot right there. and as we all know electrical components dont like heat and must remove the heat or failure will occur. One option is to replace it with an upgraded PMD and a Heatsink. I have this one on my 6.5TD and it works just fine. its worth the money because you shouldnt ever have to buy another PMD. These guys are awesome and have top notch, A+ technical assistance. The Owner/Mechanic/ Tech guy is Walt. His wife answers the phone. she is a sweet lady. I have bought several thousand dollars of stuff from them.SSDiesel Supply :: GM 6.5 TD Specialists
I forgot to tell you that the heat sink has those large fins to remove the heat form the PMD and it never gets even close to a critical temp. good luck. BTW I cant promise that that is what is causing your problem....its just one of the most common.
