1993 H1
I'm looking at a 1993 H1 on-line. I'ts in my price range, and my wife didn't shoot the idea down instantly... The specs say "8 cylinder diesel". Would that be the 6.2 or 6.5L? It also says 3 speed auto trans, which I assume is the TH-400. So my question is, how is this sucker geared, and can it go 65 MPH without coming apart? I don't need a super practical vehicle, but I do want to be able to get around on the interstate system sometimes. Thanks for any insight.
The 93 had the 6.2L diesel. It put out 150 HP and 250 Ft#s of torque. 65 MPH was the top rated speed for the truck. The transmission is the L380. I have never driven a 93 but I cruise at 75 mph on the freeway in it without any trouble but it has more HP than yours by a wide margin.
it is a 6.2 N/A diesel(non turbo) and the transmission is a 3L80 the TH400 is the 4spd. As for going 65mph im sure it could and im sure it could be driven on the interstat just dont expect to be passing anyone.
Good thing about the 93's is the simplicity so if you want to offroad it not much can really go on electrical wise since most of it is mechanical. downside their soundproofing sucks so expect it to be loud but then again you could always sound insulate it.

Thanks for the replies. So 3L80 actually only has two forward gears plus reverse? Ouch. I'd be very interested to hear from anyone who has actually driven one of these for a while. Anyone know the axle ratio?
I own a surplus pickup that has the 6.2 and TH-400. The axle ratio is 4.56, and the top recommended speed is only 55. The engine is winding up (for a diesel) by then, though it can push faster.

Thanks for the info. The H1 I'm looking at is a pickup style. They want $34K and the CTIS is non-functional. I'm told that it's leaking and would cost $3000 to fix. Is that possible? Anyway, does the price seem right, or a little on the high side? I was thinking of offering to pay their price if they get the CTIS fixed.
I dont believe it would cost 3k to get the CTIS fixed unless it has compressor issues.. as for 34k for a 93 2door that does seem a bit much, even though they are rare. I have seen newer 2doors go for much less. When I was shopping for an H1 I remember seeing a 97 2door H1 for sale locally for 35k CDN(this was around winter of 2005 back when the loonie was weaker) I almost bought it the realized it was impracticle for my needs since it would be my DD.

I replaced everything ( lines, balancing valves, etc )on the main CTIS system for about $1000.00. I think the compressor runs about $1000.00 so 3K seems high. The two doors are rare and cool. Impractical is in the eye of the beholder. If you are hauling people around the two seats don't work. I do a lot of hunting and camping so leaving the gear in the truck bed doesn't work too well for me. I have seen a few and the guys have always loved them.
