My next full tank was 17.45 mpg avg....

I've noticed that if I fill up after about half a tank-- the first half averages about 15.5 mpg--- So I am guessing because the truck weighs less (it burns less gas?) dunno.. but it bumps up to 17.x by the end of the tank.

I normally get 17-17.5 city driving, an 18.5-19mpg highway driving, and 16-16.5mpg offroading. Thats with an i5 3700 auto. When I do my airdoc closed system and k&n air filter, I intend to hit 20-21.5mpg highway. When I do my snorkel, I plan another .5-1mpg increase.

I had a chance to measure mine this weekend too, I have 35" tires and about 350lbs on the front that wasn't there before;

I was getting between 22mpg to 24mpg last year on the same route with OEM tires. This time I only got 18mpg as my average on the way down, but I pumped my tires up to 40psi for the trip home and got about 19mpg.

Not too shabby I guess, I am running the I-5 with a manual tranny in case anybody is wondering.

Wow thats impressive. THATS what I would expect a 5spd i5 to do.. yet nobody else seems to be able to pull those numbers. Thats pretty bad how far down mileage dipped w/ 35's and a bumper though. Not very motivating lol.

I am inclined to blame the gearing more than anything though, 5th gear was too tall with the 33"... with 35" tires it is almost useless. I am cruising in 4th gear on the highway more than half the time, I am sure it is costing me dearly in the fuel tank.

I am going to be looking into getting 4.88 ring and pinion sets for my differentials soon.

Basically looking at this chart the optimal zone for the 3.7L is probably around 3050... my truck is running 2845. 4.88 gearing would at least bring me somewhere between the 32" and 33" zone right in the sweet spot for mileage and power.

Interesting, so your good gas mileage is attributed to the 33" tires you think?
