Hi all, I have the bug and want an H1. I found one pretty local, (a M998), but is has the 6.2L which I heard is not a good motor? 55K on the ODO. Since my search really just started, what should I be looking at with a budget of about $50K? Thank you!

 

An M998 is not an H1. M998 = military. H1 =civilian. The 6.2 is a fantastic motor. Bulletproof. It is low tech and low powered. Top speeds in the mid to upper 50 mph range but a lot of that is gearing. 50K will buy you a very, very nice HMMWV. It is the floor for getting into an H1. HMMWV can be difficult to register in some states and some insurance companies won't cover them. Check your state before you buy.

 

Thanks for the reply, see I'm learning already! This M998 does have some added creature comforts (extended cab, seats, infotainment, etc) but no A/C. It is plated in my state so that wouldn't be an issue. But a 55mph top speed is probably a deal breaker. Thanks again
