Default OEM Steelies - H3T 2009 Question

Has anyone painted their OEM Steelies. I watched a couple videos from youtube on this and was wondering if any H3/H3T owners have done this. My OEM gray steelies are of course rusted in certain spots and i was looking for a cheaper way than having them powder-coated.

Thoughts or advice...thanks.

I would go with a grinder with a wire wheel on it then lay down a nice can of primer, spare paint and then clear coat. I would do the same with my set but I'm selling them.

I cleaned my grey OEM wheels with a green scrubbing pad. Made one pass with sandpaper by hand just to rough it a bit not to strip all the paint. Washed the wheels. Put a coat of primer, and 2 coats of high heat paint and a coat of clear coat. That was almost 3 years ago, and I have yet to have to touch up or repaint them and that was over 50,000 miles ago. These were all Rustoleum spray products.

Mine had the silver wheels when I bought it. When I painted them I painted them black. The I used RUSTOLEUM products. The paint was high heat paint.

If I remember correctly, I used 2 cans of primer, 4 cans of paint since I put on 2 coats, and one can of clear coat.

last time I had a set of wheels powder coated it was only $50 a wheel. I know I tend to put more than 2 coats of paint on everything especially if it is gonna get scratched.

its not really the price thats the only downfall...its finding a place and then being without my vehicle for the time it takes them to do it.
