Default Wooohooo that engine noise ??

2006 H3 150k miles

Sounds even worse on video , appears to be coming from just under the oil cap / plastic cover . Any thoughts . Still runs great and idles well?

is it ready to go boom ?

Just changed the oil / filter , no change.

Does it at start up when cold continues 1/2hr later when up to temp, doesn’t go away .

Sounds like a bad bearing; idler pulley, water pump, P/S pump...?

Default Serpentine belt off much quieter

The belt is off. First video is the alternator putting out fine but seems wobbly noisy

second video is of the belt tensioner not the rattle noise but I think needs to be replaced

i also noticed with the belt off the new Power steering pump if I grab the pully , the shaft moves in and out 1/8 of an inch , the pully is secure on the shaft though. is It normal to move that much ? at the end of he movement there is s tap or bang.

You need to start the engine up with the belt off. If the noise is still there, then it's internal. If it's gone, then you know it's an external cause. Alternator sounds "gratey" for lack of a better term.

Yes I did start it with the belt off was much quieter then when belt was on so luckily its external just ordered tensioner starting with that

I had similar sound on mine and it was the water pump. Looks like you're diagnosing the issue though. Best of luck.

Does anyone have audio of what this sounds like? This is exactly what I see in my head with the noise mine has been making for the past few years. 2008 H3 w/185K miles.
