Default Volant CAI

Hi guys. Just picked up my first H3, a used 2006 with just 13k miles. First upgrade I'm considering is the air intake. I've searched the forums and it seem many of you use KN, but I'm leaning toward the Volant. Anyone have experience using both andwhich do you prefer? Thanks.

I just got my H3 about 3 weeks ago. Installed the Air Doc intake (www.airdocintakes.com) and K&N filter last weekend. I have always used K&N on my vehicles, so I can't compare to Volant.

It depends on what you do with your truck. If it is a pavement princess, an "open system" like the k&N with the exposed filter barricaded off in the corner is fine. IMHO the open set ups are just silly, and trade air volume against air temperature. I use K&N air filters in everything we have, and for all of our intake system testing.

If you off road your tuck, in mud, water crossings, or deep snow, the "closed sytem" (= air filter in an enclosed box)is a must. Water, snow (when it melts), and mud will clog you filter element and can leave you stranded. Volant makes a fine closed system. My only criticicms forVolant is their boxes attempt to use the factory through fender air source, but add a second opening which then trades volume against temperature, AND they do not replace the resonator box??? Still good stuff.

Thanks H4Life.

I run a Volant CAI and a Magnaflow cat back exhaust and are very happy with both you can feel the extra snappy throttle responce and they definately give a power increase, I drive up a 10km long hill with the cruise control on regularily and it takes much longer to kick down on the steep bit and holds the higher gears longer. (Volant looks good too)
