Tainter brings up a good point. If I had to tow a 2000lb trailer everyday for work I'd probably opt for a pick up truck, club cab if I also needed to carry people. Not sure the H3 is designed to haul around trailers everyday.

 

All the Post have been above the Mason-Dixion line. I guess all the rednecks blew their $hit up. Think of it this way ,You wouldn't mind towing a buddy out of trouble waters with your ski boat but you wouldn't want to work for Sea Tow w/it . BTW most rednecks drive pick ups so they can throw their Kill of the day in it .....mmmmm bambi burgers sound good right about now or a nice pig picking. Good luck with whatever you decide.

 

In that case it's better for him to buy H3 Alpha V8 to make everyday job done better and easier! But he doesn't want Alpha.

 

Get the ALPHA.

ALPHA = 6,000 pounds max towing capacity.

6,000 pounds is plenty to pull. Medium aluminum or steel trailer with 32 foot boat, 4 people inside with luggage. problem solved. If you have the I5 then your SOL (sh*t outta luck).

 

32 foot canoe might only weigh 6000#...

 

 

the alpha is going to tow better, and the difference in fuel mileage is not even noticeable.
Why do you not want an alpha??

 

Hifi - I tow an 18 foot bayliner behind my 07 H3 (non-Alpha). My boat is about 3200 lbs but has a very low tongue weight. With a full tank and gear it is probably more like 3800 plus. Sounds pretty similar to what you will be hauling, and I tow it about 45 minutes to the lake up and down some pretty good hills.

I don't have any problems. Now, it will decelerate a bit on the big hills, but nothing too bad. If my boat were any larger I would want an Alpha, but my H3 works fine with my boat. I don't think you will have any problems other than the slight deceleration on hills. The H3 is great on slick boat ramps too. Good luck!

 

Thank you for the replies (and the comedy). Since last post, I flew to California and picked up an '08 H3 non-Alpha (Alpha would be nice but was cost prohibitive). Really enjoyed the 350 mile, 15mpg ride home.


I'll be taking it in to get it looked over tomorrow before I attach anything to it. At 76k, it feels like it needs some better shocks (looking at the Rancho's), jerks a little when I cut to the right too even after i got the alignment & some new Toyos. so.. idler arm or something.


It's all good. Time to have some fun.

 

I used my 05 Colorado with the 3.5 I5 then 07 H3X 3.7 to pull a 14 ft steal trailer and RZR 2812 lbs from NC to WV and it ran 75 mgh w/o any issues. Now my 08 H3X Alpha pulls a 20ft steal trailer with two RZR's 5229 lbs w/o any issues. And i done it every weekend and never burnt a drop of oil doing it. Chevy builds great engines so you should be fine.
