Default TIRE SIZE 315 or size smaller ?

I have a all stock 06 h3 and I want some mud tires its got 265's on it now and I am wanting the nitto trail grappler I like the 315 but it looks like too much tire for it I will off road some but not a whole lot I am not sure if I want a 305 wich is just a wide 33 or a 285 wich is a narrow 33. What is the gas milage with a 315 and how bad is scrubs with mods to the fenders and I don't want any wear and tear with the big tires either on this truck either some help would be nice.

If you are considering the Nitto Trail Grappler, be prepared for a very noisy tire. A buddy of mine had a set mounted just this past Thursday and rode around on them for a day before he took them back and traded them for the Terra Grappler. The noise was awful. If you want a mud tire, I have heard nothing but good about Toyo Open Country and not nearly as noisy as the Trail Grappler. As far as size, 315's are fine. You may want to crank your torsion bars and level the front end though...

Sounds like you've already got a few things figured out, a cross benefit analysis is always best. Each size that you listed will fit but each comes with its own pros and cons.
One thing to also consider is the weight of the tire itself compared to stock.
285: stock size for adventure packages, light weight and same height as a 305
305: wider foot print typically better for wheeling, more rubber = more traction in a black and white sense but you can argue on both sides
315: heaviest of the three options, however an additional 2" of ground clearance (in theory) over the 305s so for wheeling the best option ground clearance wise for obstacles.

A heavy tire will result in poorer fuel economy. Having an 06 won't help either. But to put it into perspective if I BABY my H3, and I mean keep the needle around 2k I can still get close to 20mpgs. But that was Pre roof rack. And w/ winch bumper, leveled, 315s and everything else...

I have already had the trail grappler in a 35-12.50-20 and it was more quite than the terra grapplers of my dads in a 295 my friend has a 37-12.50-17 on his truck and its the toyo mt's they ride horrible and they wear out fast I am considering going with a 305 so I won't just tear everything up quicker in the end just stick close to stock size as I can and I will be saving more money for tires for something else and the fuel economy will be better also

Default My opinion

265's are to small but ride very well, 285 is a good compromise had them as well went to a 315/75/16 they were also good, still have them in garage, right now I have 35/12.5/18's on my h3, best by far for looks. Gas mileage should not be a concern since these trucks were not made for that, wear and tear about the same unless you commute a distance. No need for big tires unless you want to offroad.

Well right now I don't have the extra to buy rims or I would get some rockstars its just there was a h3 I saw the other day on 315 tires and it looked like it could hardly turn and it was too much tire for the fender well and that's what is making me lean toward a 305

Default 315

315/75/16 on stock rims. I rubbed in reverse with the steering wheel turned as far as it could go. That does not happen often, so never bothered me.

Well I figured if I can get a wide 33 I can go places a 35 goes but I'm not gonna do 100% off roading maybe 10 times a year and I'm doing it for just the looks and even with the flex all the way I don't want any rubbing at all

Put 315/75r16 duratracs on the 06 H3 today. Stock suspension leveled and still have plenty of room. A really good ride to softer.
