Default Temperature Gauge reading

I recently bought a 2010 H3 and avett driving it a week or so i noticed the temp gauge reading Low all the time. I changed the collant temp sensor and the thermostat. The gauge now reads about mid way, most of the time. Some times after starting it, it doesn't come up the gauge shows Low and will not come up. If i turn off the engine and start back up most if the time it will start to work. Anyone know why it may be doing this? Also i keep getting a light saying serv TPMS

could be the servo motor for the temp gauge in the cluster is going bad.
tpms is your tire pressure monitors. if your tires are at correct pressure then maybe the batteries inside the sensors could be bad

Possibly water from sunroof drain got into BCM?
A defective, corroded ground?
A shorted wire?

2 different problems. The TPMS is your Tire pressure monitoring. No biggy if you keep your tires inflated proper.

For the water temp recomend buying a scan guage and mounting it on your colum you will get real time data on water temp and lots of other good stuff.

I do a 5 wheel rotation and always need to reset the TPMS. If I don’t do the reset I get the DIC TPMS Service warning.

TPMS batteries have a 10 year life expectancy. After that they eventually need to be replaced.

If you get false TPMS warnings, make sure all four on the ground are programmed to the truck and inflated to exactly 38PSI cold. That rules out everything but the dead battery issue.

Exactly! I'm still using oem tpm sensors. I haven't put many miles on it over the last few years, and never checked air pressures over the last 2 years. When we got low single digit temps in November, the light came on, then went off after a few miles of driving. I checked the pressures cold and they were @29-30psi. I adjusted them a few psi. Understand, for every 10° temp change, air pressures change 1-2psi. Right now, our ambient temps are going from single digits to 50°, so it's important to know what the proper cold pressure/ambient temperature should be set at, without causing any premature wear to the tires. Setting air pressures to 38psi in freezing temps is to high! Bottom line, air pressures set anywhere +30psi, should turn off the warning light, if not, time to replace the TPM sensors.

Hey Doc,
Where does the 38 PSI recommendation come from. My H3X ALPHA door sticker says 32 and my CE sticker says 35. No problem with either one. Just curious if this has something to do with the “cooler” temperatures in Michigan!

Forget the door sticker. Over the years after the H3 release and in part since TPMS were relatively new to the industry then, John Q Public kept freaking out about getting TPMS alerts/warnings/tire light etc..... TPMS used in the H3 focus on not just pressure, but trigger when one tire is a certain % less than the rest. Also seamed the door jam recommended 32 or 35 was in real life either too weak or the sensors were not functioning properly in the intended range. So the clueless kept taking their under warranty H3s to the dealer because they were too stupid to actually check tire PSI and add air. (I'll bet most auto owners do not even have a tire pressure gauge and much less have an air compressor at home.)

GM figured the way to keep John Q away from the dealers taking up time with false TPMS alarms was to set all four tires being monitored to 38PSI cold. It 100% works. Setting all 4 to the same pressure is important. Example, you could inflate 3 tires to 40PSI, and one to 35PSI, you likely will get a TPMS warning even though all four are fully inflated.

My MTZ 305s are 38PSI around town, and 40 for a road trip, never had issues in either of my H3s.
