I've been swamped getting a rental house ready for new renters to view. The previous renters lived there for 6 years and I don't think they knew how to clean a dish let alone windows, carpets or anything else. Needless to say they will NOT get their security deposit back. They did have the nerve to ask for it, Yeah right!

Should be going to the dealer on Friday or Monday for some warranty work so I will ask then.

This has been discussed in various forms and parts before. The Owners Manual recommends different fluids for different years, and different print dates of the manual.

So what you do is, look at the manual for your truck (I know this may be a first for some people ) and use what it says. That way you cannot go wrong. Example: If you put what the 09 manual says (Manual Trans. Fluid) in an 06 (DEX-III), ... and you had any warranty left, you give GM an argument that you did not follow their recommended fliuds and therefore create an issue.

Here is the fun part: DEXRON®-VI licensed fluids are fully backward compatible and can be used in all applications covered by earlier GM ATF specifications. So where it calls for DEX-III, you now use DEX-VI.

Taint ... the online 08 Manual I have which was dated 2007 calls for DEX-VI, this is why I say just do what the book your truck came with says.

06 = DEX-III
07 = MTF
08 = DEX-VI (early print)
08 = MTF (later print)
09 = MTF
10 = DEX-VI

With all this clear guidance how can one go wrong?

IMHO Reality says: It don't matter, ain't none of that chit gonna mess up your T Case if it is filled to the proper level.

So my 08 manual says MTF, and I'm running Mobil1 ATF in it which is Dex-VI. I guess I'll just stop worrying and let it go.

Off topic but Draketh has the best signature on the forum, but coffee coming out your nose is not cool.

Not to beat this dead horse too much more, but . . .
I just got back from the dealer for some service today and they changed the transfer case with DEX VI
Just like Doc states it is the preferred fluid for all transfer cases, regardless of year.
They even added the extra 8+ oz for my pre VIN 56TDN13E778100102 - 07.
The dealer told me they were up to speed on this special service bulletin
And this dealer has been good to me, so I have good reason to believe them
Are we all straight on this now [sic]

Draketh, I also like your posts sub lines

Would you please look at the print date of your manual and post it here later? Then I can update my list to include yet more clear guidance.

It's like somebody at GM could not make up their mind?

im having real trouble thinking theres ANY mechanical difference between the years!!

from a search;

What is the Viscosity of gm 88861800 oil

DO NOT use Dexron VI in place of manual transmission fluid in any manual transmissions or transfer cases that specify Dexron III, as a failure may result.

Read more: What is the Viscosity of gm 88861800 oil

also,,,

if mtf is MANUAL T F why use atf???

my old 07 book,,print in 06 says mtf fot transfer case but 75/90 synth for diffs

after breakfast ill open my tc in my 10 and get a look/smell!
