Can anyone make a good recommendation on which one they like the best for an H3? I heard some good and bad feedback on some but wanted to see what actual owners of them thought.

 

All depends on what you are going to use it for and how much you have to spend.

Occasional use, Overlanding, Extra space for a vacation?

Will you be removing the rack when not in use? Do you have a place to store a full length rack?

 

It will be used occasionaly for family trips and then removed, I'm not really looking at spending a lot on it but something that's durable and can store some beach chairs and other items.

 

I've got an old Thule basket that I like alot. Unfortunately, I waited too long to buy it's associated extension section that would have made it full length to the sunroof opening on an H3. They switched over to a different, more streamlined version a few years ago.

Anyway, it pops on and off in seconds and will be compatible with adaptors to all my future vehicles so I'm still happy with it after almost 8 years.

You need to have cross bars, either OEM or aftermarket to mount this basket to. It's light enough for one person to mount or remove in minutes.

 

I have the Rola rack with extension and like it a lot. Especially for the price, but if I had the money to spend again I would look harder at the lower profile Gobi/Fobi racks that are almost flat across. With shackles and 35" tires, the Rola fits the garage with less than an inch to spare.

I have a Gobi stealth rack with ladder and love it, rock solid low profile. parking garage friendly I used all summer long from haul fishing gear to beach chairs and now I'm using it to haul my hunting gear. it's not cheap !!! it's American made and Gobi has great customer service

 

I have an extra GOBI roof rack that I decided not to use. I installed the low profile "stealth" model and now have an extra "Ranger" tall roof rack with sunroof opening, spare tire carrier, and an extra ladder..
