Default Automatic Shifter Removal

Hi, I have a Hummer H3 and my automatic transmission shifter boot is starting to deteriorate. I would like to replace it, but do not know how to do it without damaging the chrome duty ring around the base of the boot.

Can someone offer removal advice for taking out the old shifter **** and boot?

Thanks,
Fulano

Hi,

There is a hex screw on the **** ( side of the AC / heater )
Unscrew it and take off the shiftknob
Then open the armrest and you wil find two screws in there.
You have to unscrew them also.
Then just pull backwards the whole thing and remove it.
A 2 minute job with no risk of breaking things.

Hope you manage to do it with these tips.

K.

Hi Kurteken, thank you very much...I hadn't though I had to take out the entire console. I though the chrome duty ring snapped off and then the handle and boot came out.

I appreciate your help and plan on looking at this over the weekend.

Thanks again,
Fulano

when i opened mine i removed the spring on the shift lock solenoid and taped ip so it no longer locks out shifter. ez to shift without key, batt, anything, just like the good old days !!..

like if your car is stuck with a dead batt you can move it,(off the rr tracks, etc!!)

if you need to open the radio panel its nice to shift to lo without needing the key or needing to turn on anything.
