Is a tone generator a speaker? Like I said, test an actual speaker, if your speakers are toast, you wouldn't know that with a tone generator, would you?
Actually, YES. The tone generator produces a specific tone ( if you have a really nice one you can change the HZ of the tone from 50HZ to 15,000HZ in specific increments ) .
It passes through speaker level input (speaker wire or pre-amp level (RCA) if you have a really nice one.
You can even use it to check the phase of the speaker if you have a decent ear or can see the cone of the actual woofer.
If the speaker recreates the sound from tone generator the speaker is "good".
I use mine all the time. Especially when rewiring home audio for family and friends. I have found so many wiring issues done by the "Pros" with this simple little but expensive tool.

Last one I used was 30+ years ago, made a long constant "beep", confirmed a connection, not much else. Kids and there fancy electronic stuff.
I was working on another project (redoing my shiner tank...subject for another forum) and took a break from that to read all your suggestions. I must say however that
Jeff Bezos is the biggest "crack" dealer on the planet. If I need a tool, Amazon has it. Here is what I have so far:
My next step is to check the outputs, grounds, and any other wires that could impede the signal getting to the amp.
I will work on that today till it gets too hot. Central Florida has had heat advisories for the last week and my H3 sits
outside. The heat is what killed my shiners, so I'm upgrading to a cold tank...but again, that's for another forum. I will
let you all know my progress. Thanks again!
I tested this circuit with my multimeter. It seems to be reading whatever the battery is reading whether the ignition
is on or off. 14.89 volts when car is running and alternator is charging. 12.14 volts when ignition is off and key is out.
I pulled the amp fuse under the hood and this reading drops to near zero... .01 to .02 volts.
So, I surmised that the head unit was probably blown, so I purchased a used unit from Ebay. The problem
now is that the radio is "theftlock"ed. But when I plugged it in and turned the key, Viola! I have door chimes.
Any advice on finding the unlock codes aside from paying the dealership $100 or more to give me this info?
Also, for those who care, I purchased a 7 cubic foot freezer and that is my new shiner tank.
Yeah, I have seen those videos. I'm trying to decide if I want to just remove the EEPROM chip and lose my presets
permanently, as I think that is the case. I called the number for GM where they give you the unlock code, but I can't
ascertain the radio ID number. I tried pressing 1-4 and 2-3 presets for 10+ seconds and nothing. You guys have been
very helpful.
