Default Radiator

Has anyone tried to put a crossflow radiator in their H3? Looking to possibly put a dual pass radiator in mine. I’ve tried everything in my alpha. When the temperature 105 110 just get point just running too hot. It’ll get 240 to 250 if I’m not careful.

Welcome to HF. How many miles on your Alpha.

When was the last time you changed the Trans fluid & filter? Do you have a scanner so you can see Trans Temp when you experience high heat?

You need to make certain your Alpha has its full set of radiator deflectors, seal and cowl. That the condenser is clean front and back side in between the front of the radiator, and that the radiator is also clean. Years of dirt, dust, dried crud and mud can drastically lower efficiency, as can dirt and crud buildup on the engine and oil pan.

I am still running the original radiator that I had out of the truck when I swapped the cam. While out of the truck I used a shop vac on both sides of the condenser and radiator. There as bugs, leaves and crud galore from before I bought my 09. I am also running a SuperModulation SFan 4500 EFan with digital controller.

I am in MI NE of the Motor City so we never experience your dry high heat.

I ran a could different Aluminum Radiators on my old 07 with a different efan from PCM of NC, but I have doubts on their efan in your extreme heat. An Aluminum Radiator can help. I think you are getting heat boost from your AT, monitor Trans Temp to see what that impact is.

I have clean the condenser have an external transmission cooler which is bypass the radiator cooler for a transmission. Replace the fan clutch. at the moment I’m running a fan. It was shrouded. Ran the stock radiator then the CSF radiator with a slight out of success. Right now I’m learning a three core radiator which was a little bit better. Had a 85 one ton Dooley that I ran a dual pass radiator with great success. So I’m strongly considering trying a dual pass radiator in my H3. Checked for head gaskets possibly leaking. so it’s hard to enjoy a H3 during the summer. I replaced the water pump with a GM replacement. Also thermostat twice. So I’m not ready to pull my hair out which I don’t have much left.
